Forecast not refreshing

In Dynamics 365 CE what are the most common reasons for a Forecast to not refresh after using the Recalculate button. I have used the button repeatedly and the "Last Updated" remains "15 days ago."

In Microsoft Dynamics 365 Customer Engagement, when the Forecast Recalculate button runs but the “Last Updated” timestamp does not change (for example

still showing “15 days ago”), it usually means the forecast recalculation job is:
    • failing silently,
    • stuck,
    • queued,
    • or blocked by data/configuration/security issues.
    My Strongest Recommendation
    Start with:
    • System Jobs
because if the timestamp has not changed for 15 days, there is almost certainly:
    • a failed async job,
    • suspended recalculation,
    • or backend processing error
    that will appear there.

after clicking Recalculate, you should check the async System Job named like “Recalculate Forecast” (this is the actual backend job that performs the refresh) under Advanced Settings -> System Jobs; confirm whether that job is being created and whether its status is In Progress, Succeeded, or Failed, because the “Last Updated” value only changes once this specific job completes successfully and if you don’t see this job at all, it usually means the recalculation isn’t being triggered due to a configuration or permission issue.

Thanks for the input. What makes this so puzzling is that I cannot find any System Job containing Recalculate or Forecast. We have been using this with no problem for more than 18 months, recalculating as recently as 15 days ago. Now I notice that the Acceptance environment the same is happening. Where can I check for configuration issues? Permissions (at user level) have not changed in the last several months.

    Hi,

This is more common than expected. A couple of things worth checking first:

    1. Forecast configuration – Go to Sales Forecast settings and confirm the forecast period is active and hasn’t expired. If the period is inactive, recalculation may not run even when triggered manually.

    2. Opportunity data feeding the forecast – I ran into this recently as well. Check whether contributing opportunities have required values like Estimated Revenue and Close Date populated. Missing values here can sometimes prevent recalculation without showing a clear error.

If both look fine and the forecast still hasn’t refreshed after multiple attempts over 15 days, I’d recommend raising a Microsoft support ticket, as it may be platform-related.

    Hope this helps.

@MF-29051904-0 check the below things :
    1) permission :  Your user should have read privilege on forecast configuration table and access to underlying entities ( e.g opportunity , user , org hierarchy ) , try with sys admin.
    2) Check Forecast Configuration : App -> Sales Hub -> App Settings -> Forecast Configuration , it should be active , Hierarchy field should be valid , filters are correct , try with deactivate and reactivate again.
    3) System Jobs will not be able to track anymore now , Microsoft has moved those under background services so ignore that part.

Thanks to everyone who helped. This ended up being a Microsoft support call. While the call was active the problem "went away". No root cause analysis was performed. Presumption is that this was a short-lived bug in the system.
