Server-Based SharePoint Integration issue

(1) ShareShare
ReportReport
Posted on by

We have an on-premises Microsoft Dynamics environment integrated with SharePoint Online.

We are currently attempting to configure Server-Based SharePoint Integration, but we are encountering the following error during the validation/configuration process:

<errorlog>

  <sites>

    <site>

      <url>https://tenantname.sharepoint.com/sites/xxxx</url>

      <exception>Failed to connect to SharePointSite.</exception>

      <errorcode>-2147088205</errorcode>

    </site>

  </sites>

</errorlog>

The account used for the configuration has the following permissions:

  • Global Administrator in Microsoft 365
  • Domain Administrator in the on-premises environment
  • SharePoint Site Collection Administrator
  • SharePoint Site Owner permissions

The account can access the SharePoint site successfully through a web browser without any issues.

The problem occurs regardless of which SharePoint Online site URL we specify for the integration.

Are there any known prerequisites or configuration requirements that could cause this issue?

Any guidance would be greatly appreciated.

    The error:
    Failed to connect to SharePointSite
    Error Code: -2147088205
    generally indicates that Dynamics 365 Server-Based SharePoint Integration could not authenticate or establish a trusted connection with SharePoint Online, even though the SharePoint site itself is reachable.

    My recommended troubleshooting order
    • Verify your Dynamics 365 on-premises version and latest cumulative update.
    • Confirm TLS 1.2 is fully enabled on the Dynamics servers.
    • Review the Azure AD application registration used for SharePoint integration.
    • Check Conditional Access and MFA policies that could affect server-to-cloud authentication.
    • Enable Dynamics platform tracing to capture the detailed authentication exception.
    • Verify outbound connectivity from the Dynamics server (not just an administrator's workstation) to SharePoint Online.
