Dear friends,

Do I need to modify the BAI2 file itself in order to successfully import the bank statement into Dynamics 365 Finance and Operations?
I’m especially trying to understand how the line type + position logic works inside D365FO (the exact mapping between record codes, character positions in the BAI2 file, and the fields in the bank reconciliation worksheet).
Do you have any good materials or documentation that clearly explain this line + position mapping?

Hi Giorgio,

You shouldn't need to modify the BAI2 file if it complies with the BAI2 standard. The line type and position mapping is handled by the BAI2 Electronic Reporting (ER) format in D365FO.

If your bank uses custom transaction codes or a non-standard layout, you may need to review or extend the ER mapping.

I would recommend reviewing the ABR BAI2 ER format documentation and mapping configuration

Hi,
No, you should not modify the BAI2 file if it conforms to the standard BAI2 specification. D365 Finance expects a standard BAI2 format and maps the data using Electronic Reporting (ER) or the legacy Advanced Bank Reconciliation transformation. If your bank provides a non-standard BAI2 layout, the recommended approach is to adjust the ER format mapping, not manually edit the file.

For understanding the line type + position mapping (record codes such as 01, 02, 03, 16, 49, 98, 99 and how fields are extracted), these Microsoft Learn resources are the best starting point:
